ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The Niver Creek Tributary M project improved a two-mile riverine corridor from Thornton Parkway to Niver Creek through channel stabilization, realignment, and flood mitigation upgrades. The project addressed local flood risks identified by the Mile High Flood District, including structures within the 100-year floodplain and past flooding that caused Huron Street culvert overflow. Improvements included new inlets and storm sewers, lowered curbs and sidewalks to better capture runoff, channel widening to increase capacity, erosion protection for underground utilities, and reshaped banks to create a more natural creek bed. A new 24-foot by 11.5-foot culvert at Huron Street also provides added flood capacity and supports an 800-foot underpass trail connection to Niver Open Space. Overall, the project reduces flood risk, improves creek stability, protects infrastructure, and enhances safe public access to the tributary system.
