About This Project

The City of Colorado Springs Stormwater Enterprise and Colorado Springs Utilities are leading the Sand Creek Detention Pond No. 2 Restoration to improve stormwater management, restore pond function, and protect downstream water quality. Naranjo Civil Constructors (NCC) is the prime contractor, with Merrick & Company as civil engineer and surveyor, Architerra Group as landscape architect, SM&RC Structural Engineers as structural engineer, Vivid Engineering Group for geotechnical support, and Corvus Environmental Consulting overseeing environmental compliance. The project focuses on restoring capacity and stability at Sand Creek Pond No. 2 by removing accumulated sediment, re-grading the basin, and installing new structural and natural stabilization features. A new outlet culvert structure with architectural finishes, stop-log controls, and safety railings will modernize the facility. Additional retaining walls, riprap armoring, grouted boulders, and sheet pile will reinforce pond embankments. Finally, large-scale revegetation will bring back upland and wetland habitat with native seed, 60,000+ wetland plugs, and hundreds of new trees and shrubs.
